Instant Awesome: The Choreographed First Dance

I don't know these people, but they sure can move.

I don't know these people, but I like their style.

Here’s a way to make your wedding more memorable: rehearse a choreographed first dance with your fiance/e, and then rock the house at your reception. Don’t worry, rhythm and coordination aren’t the main requirements to pull this off. All you really need is the ability to commit to the performance. You need to make the audience believe you.

And perhaps you also need a tear-away dress and tux to reveal the baby blue matching track suits you’re wearing underneath.

Check out these folks who did it well.

Some tips:

  • Song choice is important. Be ironic, but not too ironic.
  • Keep it a secret. If you spill the beans, you’ll be raising expectations unnecessarily. Blow your guests away by surprising them with your sweet, sweet moves.
  • One possible exception to the above would be creating a separate routine for your entire wedding party. I only say this, though, because, when it comes to choreography, I like to do it big. But this isn’t about me.
  • Hire a professional. These ladies specialize in original wedding choreography. If you can’t afford to hire someone, consider marrying a choreographer instead.
  • I don’t think you need to wait for a wedding to do this. Why not perform a solo at your next birthday party? And think what this could do for bar and bat mitzvahs!

p.s. It’s a shame not everyone can get married yet. The only real threat gay marriage poses is the threat of killing it on the dance floor.

If I ever get married, I’m definitely getting the whole wedding party—no, the whole CROWD—involved. p.s. Nice p.s.
